Sonya Bach has already won hearts of audiences and critics alike appearing on the most prestigious concert stages of Europe, North America and Asia.
A significant recognition has been a couple of years ago when she was discovered by Vladimir Fedoseyev, one of the world’s most eminent conductors, and was praised as “one of the most outstanding young pianists I ever saw” while her performance at the Tonhalle of Zurich, Switzerland. Immediately after, Maestro Fedoseyev invited her to give orchestra debut in Moscow performing Schumann and Britten Concerti with the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra.
In the past seasons Sonya has appeared in world’s major cities, including Barcelona, Bratislava, Brno, Budapest, Chicago, London, Lugano, Milan, Monte Carlo, Moscow, New York, Paris, Prague, Seoul and Zürich, as well as the renowned Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival receiving the highest critical acclaims.
Recent seasons saw a successful extensive tour of recitals and master classes in Asian countries, including Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong , Korea and Malaysia, where Miss Bach has received numerous invitations and re-invitations for future seasons. Immediately after, she gave debut recital at the prestigious Wigmore Hall in London.
Some notable appearances include a recital promoted by the Catalunya Government for the victims and survivors of Ravensbruck Women's Concentration Camp and an invitation by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum to give first classical performance at the newly inaugurated Community Theatre and Arts Centre in Dubai, UAE.
This season Sonya made the Korean premiere of Turina's Rapsodia Sinfonica with the Seoul National Symphony Orchestra.
Sonya Bach started playing the piano at the tender age of three, gave first public concert at age five and orchestra debut at age nine with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra in her native country. She received musical educations on full scholarships at the Juilliard School in New York and Accademia Pianistica “Incontri col Maestro” in Italy where she has been the youngest pupil of the late Lazar Berman.
Miss Bach is the recipient of the 1996 Gina Bachauer Memorial Award. As the youngest participant she has captured the Special Prize at the 12th Viotti-Valsesia International Music Competition in Italy, and top prizes at the St. Charles International Piano Competition in the U.S. and the ECO International Music Contest in Italy.
A protégé of the late Alicia de Larrocha, she has recently obtained Master in Spanish Music at the Academia Marshall in Barcelona, Spain.
In July, 2008 Sonya Bach Music Foundation has been founded in London, UK.
